this came out in the New Paper 11th Apr 06.
lets not be hypocritical and tell ourselves that JC, POLY, and ITE students are technically all equal in social standing and intelligence. that's right its time to stop kidding yourselves and yea, i'm probably referring to you.
so the story goes some retard called 'Redpony' starts a flame war after basically commenting that poly students are fucking dumb compared to the JC elites. the tirade of enraged comments from poly, ITE and even fellow JC students created enough stir for the NP to publish a story about it.
i think what's amusing isn't the fact that Redpony singlehandedly fucked himself in the ass with his comments, but the fact that so many people got agitated enough to bother to flame him.

so is Redpony's 'If someone can't even meet the minimum cut-off (points) to enter a JC, it's just plain sad.' wise truth or just immature babbling? try answering that without trying to rationalise your answer.
if memory serves me right, the cut off for JCs in my time was 20 points; maybe its 200 now who cares i'm sticking with 20 to avoid being labelled 'sarcastic'. lets break it down for the science stream if only because i came from there:
20 points for 6 subjects (including English and at least 1 Humanities). That would average out at around B3 for each. Now everyone knows that O lebber English, E and A Maths, and hmm...practically almost everything except Chinese and Humanities was a godgiven. Getting A1s and A2s for these subjects was as guaranteed as clearing a module in NUS.
Well do the math (haha...how witty) and its quite obvious getting less than 20 points for O Levels is about as easy as inhaling oxygen. If you fucked up a subject, perhaps you got a B4, easily compensated by your other subjects.
So it implicitly means that students who scored over 20 points are at the far end of the academic scale. Now i'm no genius (haha..another witticism) but i do know that a fraction of poly students did in fact score much less than 20 points, some even better than yours truly and chose the polyteknic path. Now it wouldn't be fair to call them retarded just because they wanted a polyteknic edukation, it IS a society of semi-free choice after all.
Therefore, technically Redpony is right and wrong. He is right in stating that those heroes who scored over 20 points are in fact comparable to a block of wood, but he's wrong to insult those who chose to go there on their own accord. So why the angry flames? All Redpony did was state the half truth.
My guess is probably 'n34tsd' and 'Rambo2001' (hahah wtf?!) probably felt sore because 'Redpony' happened to hit a raw nerve of truth when describing the 20-overs. If psychology has taught us anything, those who react the strongest to generic comments are the very ones who hold the same comments in truth, and become all sore and shit when someone else says it out. Don't believe me?

shut up. ponder. reflect and you'll understand that while Redpony may have acted in a mean (ooo...scary) way to his less academically inclined compartriots, its a serious case of 'blame the person, not the action'.
