'fellatio' doesn't mean 'fella-tio'
i really need to kick back and relax more often.
having papers spread a full week apart really slows the exam pace down dramatically i.e i'm hardly studying at all. gone are the days when i knew the library closing jingle by heart.
my last 3 official weeks as a student before i bid happy days farewell and dive into a sea of mundane occiff politiks where the only times a smile escapes me occurs on fridays at 430p.m. but hey, i've ranted about the the advantages of working over mugging before so i'm gonna keep my double-standards mask today and stick to my values for once.
so is yours truly eggcited about ending institutionalized education?
yes and no.
the condensed version of 'no' basically goes something like this:
final year final semester is damn slack & hence exam fever doesn't affect me. if all previous semesters were like this i would pursue a Ph.D in any-damn-thing without even considering. therefore, student-ism rocks!
the eggciting detailed rant of 'yes:
no more exam stress = no more senseless worrying over nothing. of course there are twats already working who'll stop at nothing to correct me that workplace stress >>> exam stress. hey no contest there...my dad comes home from work at 11pm average each day.
however, if you know the great eugene well you should also know that he doesn't really give a fuck what happens in his military career stint. Vroom's Expectancy Theory explains the concept of workplace motivation and in summary this is what it says:
Motivation = Valency x Instrumentality x ExpectancyInstrumentality refers to the degree of belief that performing certain actions/tasks will lead to certain desired consequences e.g carrying the boss' balls will lead to a quicker promotion
Expectancy refers to the worker's belief that some desired outcome is affected by the amount of effort he puts into a task e.g if i use arial instead of new roman the boss will be impressed and the project will succeed
Valency is the amount of importance or value the worker places on the consequences of the desired outcome e.g i want that fucking promotion so the damn project better be a fucking success!!
needless to say, a high valency, instrumentality and expectancy will lead to a high level of motivation. similarly, a very low value for any factor will lead to a low motivation level, regardless of how high the other 2 factors are. do the math, there're no concepts involved.
so how does this affect me? pretty simple. SAF is a regimented industry where only the brightest rise to the top no explanations needed. now as a graduate i can pretty safely predict that being a good worker will lead to me being recognized somewhat by them bosses. so instrumentality scores pretty well.
next, its common sense that those who do the most work in the saf are those at the very bottom. while the colonels and generals have coffee picking lice of each other, its the men and junior officers running around doing all the goddamn work that the colonels and generals take credit for later. so naturally, the harder i work the more the project/mission will succeed. (but of course, if i wasn't the one doing the work who would? the generals?)
chalk up one for expectancy as well
finally...valency. well i don't think i really need to explain anything. lets just say my saf career motto is 'xxx days to quitting without having to pay liquidated damages'. its a long story and i won't bother explaining to morons why i don't intend/never intended to pursue my servitude in the military as a real career. maybe i'll explain it in 2011.
Hence, valency -> 0
Solving,
Motivation = V x I x E = (0+)(high value)(high value) = effin' small numberso in summary, i will experience no stress because:
1. i don't give a fuck what my boss thinks of me
2. i don't give a fuck about promotion
3. i don't give a fuck about my colleagues since i've already got a loving gf
4. i would like nothing more for them to terminate my contract voluntarily so i can leave w/o paying damages
5. 4 will never happen so in any case i'll keep my job and pay anyway
did i mention i'm getting paid for this too? not bad for a first job eh? and after i quit and find a proper job, them interviewers will see that i've been in the military the past few years and therefore come to some obscure conclusion that i possess leadership skills and have strict self discipline (hey a former chief of defence force gets employed as an executive CEO of Singtel just because he's a former military man so don't ask me how employers think). win-win for me..awesome! doesn't hurt that my grades right now aren't half bad either.
so yes, i'm eggcited about graduating. the only non-eggciting thing?
babes & buddies won't bother to keep in touch even though after work they'll have ab-so-fucking-lutely nothing to do. somehow 'effort' to them is only a concept applicable in the workplace but non-related to maintaining interpersonal relationships.
GOT SOMETHING TO SAY??
