swin-guu...
its good to see japanese movies once again take root on local shores..i've always been in favor of japanese culture rather than korean...maybe its cuz jap girls are usually prettier and the scope of dramas go beyond sappy love stories in winter...
i watched Swing Girls yesterday, produced by the same genius that directed Waterboys..and amazingly i wasn't disappointed..which is no mean feat considering Waterboys is probably the best japanese comedy ever created..
the show definitely showed signs of Waterboyism throughout its run..with eccentric math teacher Mr Ozawa (the psychomotor deficient dolphin trainer in Waterboys) constantly reminding me why Swing Girls was produced by the same Waterboys director..storyline wise it follows the typical heartwarming scenario of a bunch of hopeless girls starting their own jazz band because they poisoned the entire school band 'accidentally'..with the token few crisis that sprouted up along the way..
while not as good as Waterboys..Swing Girls captures the comedic essence pretty well..definitely worth the $6.50..go watch it before it stops screening..
wonder when the vcd will be out...
